On Soviet Press Day, Sevastopol journalists celebrated the Day of Remembrance of Journalists of All Generations

On May 5, on the Day of the Soviet Press, according to the established long-standing tradition, the Sevastopol regional branch of the Union of Journalists of Russia also completed the traditional Memory Action — flowers were laid at the Eternal Flame on Nakhimov Square. This happened for the 13th time, despite the specific background of events in howling Sevastopol, the main base of the Black Sea Fleet.

This year, for all obvious reasons, Victory Day is again celebrated in a special way — its format is influenced by security measures during the Special Military Operation regime. Nevertheless, our Memory cannot be postponed until tomorrow, until after the Victory in the Northern Military District.

On May 5, 1912, the first issue of the newspaper Pravda, founded by the Bolsheviks led by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, was published. Over time, the newspaper became the main newspaper of the Soviet country. Soviet Press Day was established in 1922 in honor of its 10th anniversary. Until now, veterans of domestic journalism consider it their main professional date. As you know, Russian media workers now celebrate their professional holiday on January 13, the day the first issue of the first Russian printed newspaper Vedomosti was published in 1703. But the Day of the Soviet Press has not been forgotten. Sevastopol residents call it the Day of Remembrance of Journalists of All Generations.

Flowers were laid at the Eternal Flame on the main square of the Hero City.

We pay tribute to our senior comrades and colleagues, our Teachers, who brought the Great Victory closer, who fought in besieged Sevastopol, who, together with our fathers and grandfathers, restored the destroyed city, turning it into the real Patriotic capital of Russia— noted the chairman of the Union of Journalists of Sevastopol, director of the Institute of CIS Countries in the city of Sevastopol, Sergei Gorbachev. – Traditionally, on the eve of Victory Day, we hold a “Memory” campaign — on the pre-holiday days, the burials of our colleagues — lonely journalists — are put in order.

Veterans of the press were awarded commemorative medals “100 years of the newspaper Pravda” by the City Committee of the Communist Party, established by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

Taking the opportunity provided by the “small journalistic gathering,” Sergei Gorbachev informed his colleagues about the decisions of the Board of the Union of Journalists of Sevastopol, as well as about ongoing and planned events. Among them is the project of the SRO SZhR “Sevastopol Memorial – Book of Memory of the Heroes of the SVR.” The refrain of the project’s concept is known and understandable: “Memory cannot be put off until tomorrow!” Books are being published, filming of a documentary-journalistic film has begun.

Journalism of the Hero City and the Black Sea Fleet has always been distinguished by events, including military ones, the work of colleagues, as well as iconic names, starting with Leo Tolstoy, Vlas Doroshevich, Sergei Efron, Konstantin Simonov, Evgeny Khaldei, Evgeny Petrov, Vladislav Mikoshi… And today Sevastopol journalists are on the front line. Now this is the fifth year of the running SVO…
