Psychological assistance to SVO participants — how amendments to the law will change its scope
The Federation Council previously approved amendments to the Law “On Non-Profit Organizations”, which expand the list of activities of socially oriented non-profit organizations, where it is now possible to provide state support. In particular, this is the provision of psychological assistance to veterans of the Northern Military District and members of their families.
According to Fedorova, today both at the federal and regional levels, including in Crimea, much attention is paid to psychological assistance to combatants and veterans of the Northern Military District.
Many programs are being developed that involve specialized psychologists and clinical psychologists who work with combat traumanoted the guest of the broadcast.
Nevertheless, the adopted changes to the legislation are very important, since they expand the tools and scope of providing necessary assistance to fighters, the specialist believes.
Because psychological work with participants, with combat veterans, is a volunteer activity that requires a lot of time, labor, and training. And it will be very great when the state provides support to such centers. Accordingly, psychologists will be able to devote more hours to the children and families of SVO participants, — said the expert.
In addition, the new law will increase the number of psychologists specializing specifically in combat mental trauma, but today there are not enough of them, the psychologist added.
There is a shortage, and it’s great that the state has focused on this… That is, there is comprehensive work here not only to support the centers, but also to support educational programs and train psychologists in this area. This is the attention of the normative part to determining the criteria for specialists who work on combat traumathe speaker explained.
According to her, there are many people who need such help today. And most of the fighters faced so-called existential crises, the psychologist noted.
Also, Northern Military District veterans often come to specialists asking for help restoring family relationships, she said. According to Fedorova, problems also arise because a long separation makes both the fighters and their families different.
People often ask how to build relationships, cope with emotions, talk about how you feel, and support your spouse. That is, despite the fact that the guys experienced difficult events, they still worry about their loved ones— said the psychologist.
It may not be possible to open up in a conversation with psychologists right away, she warns, much depends both on the specialists and on the willingness of the clients to be sincere and receive help. But today, according to Fedorova, more and more fighters are coming to psychologists who understand their problems, want to get rid of them, help themselves and those around them, the specialist concluded.
