Remote scammers do not sleep: a resident of Balaklava will remember “acquaintance on the Internet” for a long time

The police of Sevastopol reminds the residents of the city: remote scammers continue to steal money from gullible citizens. To carry out their illegal activities, the attackers use, among other things, social networks and dating sites. The victim of such an online acquaintance was a resident of Balaklava.

In January last year, a single -year-old resident woman met a man on one of the dating sites, who, in her opinion, turned out to be an interesting conversationalist and introduced himself as an employee of a foreign oil company. Communication on the Internet lasted several months, and once in a conversation, a virtual friend told a woman that his contract was ending soon, and he intended to come to visit her in Russia. Also in the conversation, the man said that he had temporary difficulties with the transfer of currency to Russian bank accounts and asked him to transfer a large amount to him, which he promised to return soon, — told the details of the «scheme» in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

Suspecting nothing, a local resident transferred about 170 thousand rubles to the specified account and began to wait for the arrival of a foreign tourist. When he suddenly stopped communicating, the woman suspected something was wrong and contacted the police.

On this fact, the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Balaklava district initiated a criminal case under article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”.

The police of Sevastopol recalls the precautions when communicating with casual acquaintances in the virtual space. Remember: new friends may not be who they say they are, and by lending money to them, you are more likely to risk losing your savings. Be vigilant, don’t let yourself be deceived.
