Rescue services of Sevastopol will be replenished with new specialists

The rescue services of Sevastopol are preparing to replenish their personnel — in the near future the department will be strengthened by 26 new specialists. 14 of them will enter service in the Sevastopol Rescue Service.

Within three weeks, training was conducted under the “Rescuer” professional training program, aimed at training employees of search and rescue services and units. The training was completed by 26 students from emergency rescue services and fire and rescue units, for whom this is a step towards obtaining official status. The training was conducted by specialists from the educational and methodological department of the Department of Public Safety, and the program itself was divided into two key stages: first, general professional training, then practical work directly as part of the fire and rescue squad at the place of future service.

At the first stage, attention was paid to the theoretical basis that allows minimizing the consequences of emergency situations. Students systematized their knowledge of regulatory documents, studied the methodology for conducting emergency rescue operations and searching for victims. In addition, the course covered issues of occupational safety, fire safety, physical and psychological training, as well as the basics of topography and protection against radiation, chemical and biological threats.

Then the acquired knowledge was consolidated in practice. Future employees practiced skills in working with hydraulic and power tools, using respiratory and skin protection, as well as rules for handling special gear and equipment needed in emergency situations.

The final step will be an exam at the City Certification Commission. After successful completion, students will be assigned the “Rescuer” status. They will then be given an official lifeguard book confirming their qualifications. Thus, the city’s rescue potential will increase thanks to almost three dozen new professionals ready to work.
