Roskomnadzor warns about fraudulent mailings banning VPN at work
Fraudsters are sending fake messages on behalf of Roskomnadzor about banning the use of VPN services in workplaces. The supervisory authority reported this on February 26. According to the department, fake letters are sent from the email address rsockanc56@mail.ru.
The letters are issued as official documents of the territorial Office of Roskomnadzor and contain information about the certified electronic signature of an authorized employee. This is fake! — the department wrote on its Telegram channel.
They clarified that all letters from Roskomnadzor and its territorial bodies must contain an electronic signature in .sig format, the authenticity and validity period of which can be checked on the State Services portal. It is also reported that the department uses mail in the format name@rkn.gov.ru to send official letters.
The first deputy chairman of the State Duma IT committee, Anton Gorelkin, reported at the end of last year that Russia does not plan to introduce fines for using VPNs and is not discussing such a possibility. The deputy recalled that liability only applies if such services are used to commit crimes.
