Rospotrebnadzor: isolated cases of meningococcal infection are recorded in Crimea
In Crimea, isolated cases of meningococcal infection are recorded in different age groups. About this RIA Novosti Crimea reported the press service of the Interregional Directorate of Rospotrebnadzor for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.
The situation in our region is stable; very isolated cases are being recorded. About three or four in total per year. And this is for both children and adults,” the department said.
At the same time, according to Rospotrebnadzor, in Russia as a whole, since the beginning of the year, there has been an increase in the incidence of meningococcal infection, however, thanks to effective anti-epidemic measures, it was possible to prevent further spread and the formation of large group outbreaks.
The incidence of meningococcal infection is concentrated in several regions of Russia, where the necessary preventive measures are taken. Currently, the situation has stabilized and does not exceed the long-term average levelsays the department’s Telegram channel.
Rospotrebnadzor recommends observing personal hygiene rules, regularly ventilating premises and avoiding contact with sick people. At the first symptoms of illness, consult a doctor immediately.
Meningococcal infection is a bacterial infection caused by meningococcus (Neisseria meningitidis). The most dangerous are generalized forms, which often have a lightning-fast course. Children, adolescents, elderly people and people with weakened immune systems are most susceptible to the disease.
Signs of the disease may include painful headaches spreading to the neck, nausea, vomiting, convulsions, dilated pupils, confusion, loss of coordination, and daytime drowsiness.
Earlier, Natalya Litvinyuk, a doctor-epidemiologist at the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology at Rospotrebnadzor, said that increase in infection cases enterovirus infection, including serous meningitis, is typical for the summer-autumn period in Sevastopol.
