Russians will go to work on Monday after Easter, but not all — Crimea will have a rest
Easter, which falls on April 12 in 2026, is not a public holiday in Russia, so the day off from Sunday to Monday — April 13 — will not be transferred, with the exception of Crimea. This was reported to TASS by Yevgeny Masharov, a member of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for public examination of bills and other normative acts.
It is important to understand that Russia is a multinational country where, in addition to the Orthodox, representatives of other faiths also live. Accordingly, there is no official day off for the Orthodox holiday of Easter.said Masharov.
He noted that Article 14 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation emphasizes the secular nature of the country, prohibiting any religion from occupying a dominant position. Article 6 of the Labor Code gives state authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation the right to establish additional non-working (holiday) days.
Based on the decree of the head of the Republic of Crimea dated January 12, 2026 “On non-working holidays on the territory of the Republic of Crimea” in connection with the celebration of Easter, Crimeans will be able to additionally rest on Monday, April 13,” Masharov clarified.
According to him, Easter is always celebrated on Sunday; for most working people, rest is guaranteed on Saturday and Sunday. All non-working holidays are listed in Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. There are eight such dates in total.
