Scammers have come up with a scheme to deceive relatives of military personnel — they are calling from… the morgue
Fraudsters have come up with a new scheme aimed at deceiving relatives of military personnel. This was reported by the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for Combating Cybercrime.
During the conversation, the attackers introduce themselves as morgue employees and report the death of a loved one. Under the pretext of transferring personal belongings, the deceased is asked to name the postal code and dictate the code from SMS, explaining this by the need to confirm consent to send personal belongings— the police revealed the scheme.
The scheme is aimed at relatives of dead or missing military personnel, as well as at people who may have lost contact with loved ones located in the combat zone, law enforcement officers specify.
The department reminds that employees of medical institutions never request codes from SMS messages, and ask you to trust only official sources of information.
Previously, scammers came up with a new scheme in which they call under the guise of bank employees and convince potential victims pay off the “debts” of relatives.
