Decorate the city, journalists say «Sevastopol newspaper»began on Tuesday, December 16, from Primorsky Boulevard, or more precisely, with the installation of an illuminated rotunda and installations in the form of a harp and saxophone on the observation deck near the central fountain. By midday, workers had assembled the metal structures of the base and, using a crane, began installing the columns supporting the dome.
According to Valentin Milenin, a representative of the individual entrepreneur Petin who is installing the illumination, the rotunda will take two to three days. At the same time, a light fountain and arches are being installed on Nakhimov Square. The installation of all city decorations is expected to be completed on December 25-29.
In total, approximately 150 decorations will be installed, including on Nakhimov Square, Primorsky Boulevard, Sinopsky Spusk, on Lazarev Square, Lenin Street, Nakhimov Avenue, in the area of Gorpishchenko and Rudneva streets, on Pobeda Avenue, near the DKR, in Inkerman, on the North Side.
An installation in the form of a family of deer will again appear on Ushakov Square, but the cedar tree will be decorated with light garlands only on Lazarev Square.
The luminous numbers “2026”, despite the objections of city residents, will again be placed in front of the colonnade of the Count’s pier.
Amusing cannons will still be hung on poles on Lenin Street, but the boats on the lanterns of Bolshaya Morskaya will never be returned — their service life has already expired, and major repairs are too expensive.
According to V. Milenin, before installation, all structures are checked for technical serviceability and, if necessary, repaired. True, their appearance is rather tired and not at all festive: the paint is peeling off in some places, the bases of the columns are touched by rust. But the workers promise to correct these traces of last year’s aggressive influence of the marine environment after installation. When asked why this could not be done in the off-season, they answer that it was due to the weight of the metal structures themselves.
Despite dry storage, the sea salt that has settled on the metal does its job and causes rust. This structure requires major painting in the workshop, using a special oven. There are such conditions in Sevastopol, but everything will take at least a month. You need to peel off the old paint, apply zinc primer, paint and bake it in the oven. In addition, this design is too heavy and gets scratched during transportation, which nullifies all the work done before. In a good way, New Year’s installations that are installed in the city should be light, aluminum, without any complex manipulations for care and transportation“, explained one of the workers.
