Sevastopol operatives detained a man suspected of robbing two pensioners

Sevastopol criminal investigation officers detained a local resident suspected of committing robberies against two local residents aged 64 and 72. On one of the victims, according to the police, the attacker attacked on the street and tore off a gold chain with a cross from her neck. He overtook the second woman in the elevator and openly stole a jewelry chain with a pendant. The preliminary total amount of material damage caused was 125 thousand rubles.

The detained 24-year-old local resident, previously convicted of theft, confessed to the crimes committed and said that he chose elderly women as objects of illegal activity, who could not offer him significant resistance. To avoid exposure, the suspect used conspiracy means: during the attacks, he hid his face with a cap and changed clothes. He sold the stolen women’s jewelry to a pawnshop, and spent the proceeds of crime on renting housing, food and buying drugs.

At the time of the arrest, his 26-year-old friend was with the suspect, from whom, during a personal search, the police found and seized a polymer bag with crystals. According to the young men, the seized substance is a synthetic drug that they purchased with criminal money and kept for personal use. The contents of the bundle have been sent for forensic examination, the issue of initiating a criminal case is being decided— reported in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

Both citizens refused to undergo a medical examination and were brought to administrative responsibility under Part 1 of Art. 6. 9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation «Consumption of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances without a doctor’s prescription or new potentially dangerous psychoactive substances.»

Criminal cases were initiated against a 24-year-old local resident under Part 1 of Art. 161 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The defendant was detained in accordance with Art. 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation, the issue of choosing a measure of restraint for him is being decided.
