CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Sevastopol police warns: cases of remote fraud are periodically registered in the city, the victims of which are the owners of bank cards.
Attackers make a phone call to citizens and, under the pretext of protecting funds from unauthorized actions, convince them to install a certain mobile application or provide confidential bank card details or transfer money to a “safe account”. Often, scammers are fluent in banking terminology and, having some information about you, they can address you by name and patronymic. If a citizen follows their instructions, then the criminals freely steal his savings in a bank account , — note the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.
In one of the recent cases, a -year-old resident of Sevastopol turned to the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Leninsky District. The woman said that in the afternoon a stranger called her on her mobile phone, who introduced himself as a bank employee and reported unauthorized actions with the funds in the account. The attacker convinced the victim to transfer money to him through a mobile application in the amount of thousand rubles. The victim knew about these types of fraud, but misled by an unexpected call, she complied with the requirements of the swindler. On this fact, the employees of the internal affairs bodies initiated a criminal case and all necessary measures are being taken to identify and search for the criminal.
In order to prevent these crimes, the Sevastopol police ask you to take appropriate precautions. When receiving such calls, you must remain calm and reasonable. Remember that real bank employees do not offer to install mobile applications for remote access and do not require the transfer of funds to a “reserve” account and, having all the necessary information about customers, do not ask for confidential information over the phone. Only scammers can ask these questions. In such a situation, we recommend that you immediately end the conversation with the stranger and contact your bank to make sure everything is in order with your savings.
If you have suffered from fraud, then you must immediately contact the nearest territorial unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia or report it by phone 102.
