Sevastopol rescuers conducted exercises in the Bay of Alexandra

In Sevastopol, against the background of the continuation of accidents in hard-to-reach coastal zones, rescuers conducted a large-scale training lesson in the Aleksandra Bay-one of the most beautiful and at the same time dangerous places to relax. The event was held at Cape Fiolent and included both the preventive part — the installation of information tablets with anxiety statistics, and the practical development of the evacuation of the victims from the zone with a steep relief.

Since 2014, 18 people died in this area, another 84 were saved. Only this year — 3 dead and 5 saved. These are not just numbers — these are tragedies that can be prevented,-quoted the press service of the Government of Sevastopol as the head of the Sevastopol Rescue Service of Anatoly Popov.

It was the Aleksandra Bay that became the epicenter of incidents due to mass ignoring by tourists and local residents of elementary safety measures: people go down to the sea on the unequipped “goat paths”, having neither training nor suitable equipment.

The exercises passed through a realistic legend: two young men who decided to go down to the beach, fell off the cliff and received injuries of varying severity. Tavros, Omega, South and North promptly arrived in the call. Rescuers immobilized the first victim, recorded the cervical department with the help of a chantze collar, stopped bleeding, laid in special stretchers and lifted along a steep slope using climbing equipment — to transfer an ambulance to the brigade. The second — similarly prepared and lowered to the water, where he accepted the boat and delivered it to Balaklava for further hospitalization.

We work out not only the technique of salvation, but also the coherence of actions between the units, radio communications, interaction with the ambulance and the management of small vessels. Every second here on the account. The main reason for the tragedies is arrogance and complete misunderstanding of risks. 80% of those who come here for the first time. They go in slippers, in dresses, without water, without a card. They think — beautifully, then safe. But beauty is deceiving,-explained the head of the search and rescue detachment of the Sevastopol Rescue Service Viktor Tarasov.

Rescuers remind: the only safe way to such beaches is from the sea. Any independent descent along unequipped paths is a risk to life. As part of the prevention, service employees monthly check information signs along the coast, update warnings about the collapse and bathing prohibitions.
