Sevastopol resident — participant of the Great Patriotic War Vasily Zolotarev — celebrates his 100th anniversary

Vasily Sergeevich Zolotarev, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, turned 100 on January 14. He was born in the Voronezh region and from a young age showed an active civic position. With the beginning of the war, Vasily Sergeevich was entrusted with delivering summons. In December 1943, he was drafted into the ranks of the Workers ‘and Peasants’ Red Army and sent to serve in Poltava, in an anti-aircraft artillery regiment. Vasily Zolotarev defended the city of Krasnograd, the GRES-2 station near Kharkov, the Kharkov Tractor Plant and the Poltava-Yuzhnaya railway station from enemy air raids. In the fall of 1944, he took part in the liberation of Hungary from the Nazi invaders.

For military services, Vasily Sergeevich was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, II degree, medals “For Military Merit”, “For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945”, “For the Capture of Budapest” and other awards.

They told us: “Take care of the bridge, otherwise it will be bad.” And until the end, until the Victory, we were on duty. The trains passed by, the guys said something about the war, about the Victory, but we still didn’t know. And then in the morning, at six o’clock, they started shooting and said: “Victory!” Everyone was happy — the war was oversaid the veteran.

In honor of the veteran’s anniversary, representatives of the Government of Sevastopol, the Veterans’ House and the veterans’ organization congratulated him. Vasily Sergeevich received congratulations from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev.

Despite his advanced age, Vasily Sergeevich continues to lead a healthy lifestyle and actively communicates with young people.

The guests wished Vasily Sergeevich good health, long life, and also presented him with memorable gifts.
