Sevastopol resident Ramil Bayramov presented an innovative project at the talent summit in Kazakhstan

The winners and prize-winners of the scientific and technological competition “Great Challenges” presented their projects to the summit participants from Kazakhstan, showing that young researchers and inventors can contribute to solving pressing scientific problems under the guidance of experts, and thereby motivated schoolchildren from Kazakhstan to engage in project activities. The summit participants got acquainted with the educational programs of Sirius and the advanced research of Russian scientists, attended lectures and master classes by leading Sirius experts, as well as an exhibition of projects of participants in the scientific and technological competition “Great Challenges”. Among the summit participants is Ramil Bayramov from Sevastopol, a graduate of the Small Academy of Sciences, an 11th grade student at the SevSU Pre-University Lyceum. The young man presented the project “Obtaining a tissue-engineered structure based on chondrocytes for maxillofacial surgery.”

Ramil and his team worked to obtain tissue-engineered structures using model cells that were similar in characteristics to native tissue and that met the key safety requirements of BMCP. Such a construct can be used in maxillofacial surgery to eliminate defects in cartilage tissue and in plastic surgeries with fewer health risks.

Like the rest of the team, I was involved in all stages of the work — from creating three-dimensional cartilage structures to their evaluation. However, my colleagues and teachers especially noted my contribution to the development of the official website of the project. When making a presentation to schoolchildren in Kazakhstan, I set myself several tasks: not only to talk about the work done during the 24 days of the project shift, but also to convey to the audience the latest achievements of world and Russian medical sciencesaid Ramil Bayramov.

The directions of the “Grand Challenges” cover key areas that correspond to the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of Russia. This year the competition includes 11 areas — from agro-industrial and biotechnology, genetics and biomedicine, space research to ecology, big data and cognitive research.

Winners and prize-winners of the competition can come to Sirius for the program of the same name, where for 24 days its participants work in high-tech laboratories of Sirius under the guidance of leading Russian experts, solving real problems facing modern science.
