In Sevastopol, over the three quarters of 2025, banks in the region identified and handed over twelve counterfeit banknotes to law enforcement agencies. This is seven units less than in the same period last year.
Among the fakes, there are the most 5,000-ruble banknotes — 8, and 1,000-ruble banknotes — 1. For comparison: a year earlier, during the same period, 12 five-thousandth bills and three thousandth bills were identified.
In addition to counterfeits of the national currency, experts discovered and removed from circulation one 100 dollar banknote and two 100 euro banknotes. A year ago, there were four counterfeit units of foreign currency: two $100 bills and one each of $10 and 100 euros.
The decline in the number of counterfeits has been observed for several years. The culture of handling cash is growing, the level of financial literacy is increasing, Sevastopol residents are learning to recognize counterfeit billsnotes the acting Head of the Sevastopol Branch of the Southern Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia Vitaly Sidorenko. — However, we recommend not to let down your guard. If you doubt the authenticity of banknotes, check them for the presence and quality of watermarks, make sure that there are microperforations — microscopic holes with a pattern of the banknote’s denomination, look at the bill from different angles to see if there are rainbow stripes on the ornamental ribbon.
