CrimeaPRESS reports:
On May 9, commemorative events dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the Great Victory were held in Simferopol.
In the morning, the ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths was held in the Crimean capital at the Military Cemetery on Starozenitnaya Street and in the park named after Yu.A. Gagarin to the Eternal Flame memorial.
Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov, Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Southern Federal District Kirill Stepanov, Senator from the Republic of Crimea, member of the Committee of the Federation Council on Foreign Affairs Sergey Tsekov came to pay tribute to the memory of the Heroes of the Great Patriotic War, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea Yuriy Gotsanyuk, Head of Simferopol Administration Mikhail Afanasiev, Chairman of the Simferopol City Council Viktor Ageev, heads of territorial divisions of federal authorities.
After laying flowers, red carnations — a symbol of memory and Victory, those present honored the memory of the Heroes with a minute of silence.
This sacred holiday unites our multinational people. Our roots are in Victory, the stories of the exploits of our glorious ancestors. Veterans are our Banner. The longer they are with us, the more we will be able to find out how it was, at what cost the victory was given. We are proud of the Great Victory, we will not disgrace it— said the Head of the Crimea Sergey Aksyonov.
Speaker of the Crimean Parliament Vladimir Konstantinov drew historical and political parallels between the events of the Great Patriotic War and the special operation in Ukraine:
Our Fatherland is again faced with the difficult task of destroying Nazism on the territory of the former Ukraine. Crimeans are united by this goal. We support our President, our Army. We are worried about our fighters who are heroically fighting the Ukrainian Nazis on the front lines. I am convinced that all the goals of the Special Operation will be achieved, Nazism will be destroyed. And the territories that are historically Russian will be returned under the control of our country. For us, this is not a matter of territorial acquisition, but a matter of the security of our Fatherland.
In turn, the head of the administration of Simferopol, Mikhail Afanasiev, stressed that Victory Day is a holiday that will forever remain in the hearts as a symbol of the heroism and courage of the people who defended peace on earth.
I am sure that today’s holiday is in the heart of everyone, and in the Russian Federation it will always be celebrated, — said the head of the administration of the Crimean capital.
