Crimean Federal University named after V. I. Vernadsky launched a distributed simulation training center for students studying in the specialty «Dentistry». The project was implemented as part of the program of strategic academic leadership «Priority 2030». The center includes several training rooms equipped with modern simulation dental units with phantoms.
Such equipment allows students to work out the necessary basic manual skills in conditions as close as possible to practical activities, which relate to all specialized areas in dentistry, including therapeutic, surgical, orthopedic and pediatric dentistry, — the press service of the university quotes the dean of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Medical Academy of KFU. According to him, phantom dental units are equipped with video surveillance systems, which allows teachers to control the manipulations of students and guide them.
For the widest possible presentation of disposable individual dental phantoms for students, such as sets of teeth of the upper and lower jaws, a specialized 3D printer, a 3D scanner and a personal computer with the necessary software were purchased for the educational dental laboratory. This will provide virtually all students of the faculty with individual sets of training phantoms. Their presentation will act as an individual «portfolio» of students, demonstrating the skills they have acquired during their studies.— says Maxim Kriventsov.
In the future, the Crimean Federal University plans to expand the range of simulation equipment.
