Spring is coming: salvia and marigolds are preparing to decorate Sevastopol flower beds

At the end of January, Parks and Squares specialists began sowing summer flowers in the institution’s greenhouses. Salvia and marigold seedlings have already appeared in nurseries — about 20 thousand seedlings, which in a few weeks will get stronger and be ready for picking.

Picking is an agrotechnical technique in which young plants are transplanted from a common container into individual pots. This procedure stimulates the development of a powerful root system and increases the survival rate of flowers after planting in open ground.

Salvia and marigolds were not chosen by chance: these crops are perfectly adapted to the climatic conditions of Sevastopol. They are resistant to drought, tolerate solar insolation well and remain decorative until autumn. That is why they traditionally become the basis of the city’s summer floral decorations.,” noted Nadezhda Dyatel, agronomist at Parks and Squares.

The cultivation of flower seedlings in the institution is carried out in a continuous cycle: while some crops are blooming in city flower beds, seedlings for the next season are already growing in greenhouses. This allows for uninterrupted renewal of flower beds and maintains the aesthetics of the urban environment.

After 250 thousand spring flowers bloom, specialists will plant young plants grown in greenhouses in the city’s flower beds and flower beds, forming bright compositions in public areas of the city.
