Statistics: in 2022, credit cards were the most popular loan product among Russians

The United Credit Bureau (UCB) has summed up the credit activity of citizens for 2022 based on information from lenders who submit data to the Bureau.

In total, in 2022, 41.93 million new loans were issued for a total of RUB 11.25 trillion. On an annual basis, the number of loans issued decreased by 9%, and the volume of lending — by 24%. In 2021, 46.12 million loans were issued for 14.89 trillion rubles. The only one that showed growth in lending in 2022 was the credit card segment. The number of new cards increased by 15% yoy, the volume of approved limits — by 14%. In 2022, more than 19.77 million new cards were issued with a total limit of 1.62 trillion rubles, a year earlier — 17.21 million cards for 1.42 trillion rubles. A significant decline in lending in 2022 was recorded in the car loan segment. The number of loans issued decreased by 44% year-on-year, the volume of loans — by 39%. In 2022, 462.59 thousand loans were issued for 549.36 billion rubles, a year earlier, banks issued 830.62 thousand loans for 907.53 billion rubles. The average size of a car loan increased by 9%: from 1.09 to 1.19 million rubles.

In the segment of cash loans, the number of new loans decreased by 19%, the volume of lending — by 34%. In 2022, 15.61 million cash loans were issued for 4.44 trillion rubles. against 19.26 million loans for 6.76 trillion rubles. a year earlier. The average amount of a cash loan issued decreased by 17%: from 351 to 285 thousand rubles.

The number of new POS loans decreased by 30% year-on-year, while the volume decreased by 23%. In 2022, 4.85 million POS loans were issued for RUB 257.21 billion, a year earlier — 6.97 million commodity loans for RUB 335.20 billion. The average bill for a POS loan increased by 10%: from 48 to 53 thousand rubles.

In the mortgage lending segment, the number of new loans, the funds for which were actually transferred to borrowers’ accounts in 2022, decreased by 34% year-on-year, and the monetary volume of lending decreased by 20%. In 2022, 1.23 million mortgage loans were issued for a total amount of more than 4.38 trillion rubles, a year earlier — 1.85 million loans for 5.47 trillion rubles. The average size of a new mortgage loan increased by 21%: from 2.96 to 3.57 million rubles.
