Strong solar flares have returned
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Activity on the Sun has increased again. After two weeks of calm at night, at about 4 o’clock Moscow time, an M1.0 level flare occurred on the eastern edge of the star, reports the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to scientists, this is a fairly strong event — the fourth of five levels on the scale used by astronomers. Only Level X flares are stronger.
According to experts, the outbreak lasted about 11 minutes — from 03:26 to 03:37 Moscow time — and does not pose a danger to the Earth.
Scientists believe that this is the beginning of a new period of active processes on the Sun, which can last at least a week and reach its peak between November 3 and November 9.
Currently, on the left edge of the Sun, two large centers of activity are observed approaching the Earth, visible in large magnetic loops with a height of up to 200-300 thousand km (with the size of the Earth about 13 thousand km), — told in the laboratory.
Previously, on the far side of the Sun, these areas have already caused powerful flares. One of them even touched the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, but, as scientists clarify, it was not damaged.
Now the active zones are turning towards the Earth. One of them has already received the number 4272, and the second, even larger, remains behind the edge of the solar disk. It was there that the night outbreak occurred.
According to experts, the power of this area is very high. In the next two or three days, what is happening can be observed simply as a beautiful phenomenon, but from the middle of next week, solar processes will begin to affect the near-Earth space — magnetic disturbances and auroras may appear.
Overall, 2025 will see the highest solar activity over the past 11 years, there is a high probability of strong magnetic storms on Earth, scientists previously stated.
