The cost of railway tickets in Russia increased by 8.1%

Railway tariffs for the carriage of passengers in reserved seat and common carriages have been indexed by 8.1% since January 1 2023 in accordance with the order of the Federal Antimonopoly Service posted on the official website of legal information. Indexation will make it possible to allocate funds to upgrade the passenger infrastructure. As noted earlier in the Ministry of Transport of Russia, the carrier will be able to provide passengers with discounts for travel in a reserved seat in order to keep the cost of tickets affordable for passengers.

The Federal Passenger Company (a subsidiary of Russian Railways) and Grand Service Express, which provides transportation to Crimea, also increased fares for compartments, SVs and suites by 8.1%. At the same time, the GSE emphasized that the tariff increase was lower than the predicted increase in consumer prices.

In addition, according to the forecasts of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the indexation of railway tariffs for the transportation of passengers in 2024-2023 years will be at the level of 4%
