The day of the defeat of Nazi troops in the Battle of Stalingrad — commentary from the Head of Crimea
Commentary by the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksenov in connection with the Day of the defeat of Nazi troops by Soviet troops in the Battle of Stalingrad.
Great date. Great name. Stalingrad.
February 2 – Day of the defeat of Nazi troops by Soviet troops in the Battle of Stalingrad. Day of military glory of Russia.
200 days and nights of fierce fighting on the Volga ended with a decisive victory for the Red Army, the encirclement and defeat of the 330,000-strong German group.
«Stalingrad was the decline of the Nazi army.» This is a quote from Joseph Stalin’s report at the ceremonial meeting of the Moscow Council of Workers’ Deputies with party and public organizations in Moscow on November 6, 1943.
And here is another quote: “This is truly an amazing victory.” It belongs to Winston Churchill and is contained in a letter from the British Prime Minister to Stalin dated February 1, 1943. Churchill later presented the head of the Soviet state with an honorary sword, commissioned by the King of Great Britain, on which is engraved the inscription: “To the citizens of Stalingrad, strong as steel, from King George VI as a sign of the deep admiration of the British people.”
The Americans did not lag behind in enthusiastic assessments of the outstanding success of the Soviet troops. US President Franklin Roosevelt in May 1944 sent a letter to the city of Stalingrad, in which he also expressed admiration for its defenders and called this victory “the turning point of the war of the Allied Nations against aggression.”
Today in the West they don’t like to remember this. The former allies shamelessly took credit for the main achievements in the defeat of Nazism.
But we know the truth and will always defend it. She is in our hearts.
“Above all Everests is Mamayev Kurgan!”
These words from a poem by Robert Rozhdestvensky very accurately reflect our attitude towards the Battle of Stalingrad, towards the feat of our soldiers, – says the commentary of the Head of the Republic.
