Investigators and forensic investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Crimea and Sevastopol continue to establish the circumstances of the collapse of an apartment building in Sevastopol. The Investigative Committee reported on the progress of the investigation. The criminal case is being investigated under the articles “Causing death by negligence” and “Illegal acquisition and storage of an unidentified explosive device.”

It was established that the epicenter of the tragedy was on the balcony of an apartment located on the first floor of the building. As a result of the emergency, the 50-year-old owner of the apartment died, her four daughters aged 23, 18, 14 and 12 years old received various injuries and are in hospitals, her 20-year-old son is listed as missing. – the Investigative Committee was informed.

And they emphasized that due to the fact that the gas equipment in the apartment was not damaged, the investigation has no reason to consider the cause of the incident to be a domestic gas leak. In addition, there are no signs of external influence on the house, the department also noted.

The investigation ordered 15 examinations, over 20 people were questioned as victims and witnesses, several searches were carried out, the residents of the destroyed apartments were recognized as victims, neighboring buildings were inspected in order to collect evidence and search for material evidence. The progress of the criminal investigation has been placed under personal control by the head of the Main Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee for Crimea and Sevastopol, Vladimir Terentyev.

In Sevastopol on Tuesday night it thundered explosion in residential building No. 14 on Pavel Korchagin Street. The blast wave also seriously damaged the house opposite – No. 20. One woman died, she was the mother of five children. There are 12 Sevastopol residents in hospitals, including three children. Between 30 and 60 apartments were damaged. People were evacuated. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by criminologists, explosives experts, specialists from the Investigative Committee and the FSB.
