The first magnetic storm of the new year hit the Earth
The first magnetic storm began on Earth in the new year 2026. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The storm began on January 2 at about 11 p.m. Moscow time. According to scientists, geomagnetic indices rose in response to the arrival of plasma ejected from the M7.1 solar flare that occurred on December 31.
Thus, an echo from solar events last year came to the Earth. The wait for the first magnetic storm in the new year 2026 was very short — only about 2 daysthe message says.
The level of geomagnetic fluctuations is G1 (minimum), but can increase to G2.
