The names of the best young readers of Russia and the world were announced at the Artek International Children's Center
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The International Children’s Center «Artek» hosted the All-Russian and International Finals of the competition for young readers «Live Classics» — the most spectacular and key event of the entire season of the competition. 15 teenagers from different regions of Russia, as well as 15 schoolchildren from Slovakia, Egypt, Zambia, Estonia, Abkhazia, the USA, Armenia, Turkey, Syria, Kyrgyzstan and Mexico competed in reading excerpts of their favorite prose aloud.
The path to the final was not easy for all project participants. They went to this for a whole year, reading books one after another, asking for advice from relatives, friends, teachers, trying to find a work that would become part of themselves. This year, more than 300 young readers from all over our country, from northern Norilsk to sunny Krasnodar, came to the legendary Artek children’s center. Each region of Russia sent the best readers who were able to successfully overcome the class, school, then regional stage and win the regional one. The finalists of the international stage of «Live Classics» also passed all the stages of the competition. This year, 140 schoolchildren from 31 countries came to compete in reading aloud. For two weeks they went through stage after stage. As a result, only 15 contestants from Armenia, Zambia, Abkhazia, Egypt, Turkey, USA, Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Estonia, Mexico and Slovakia reached the International Final and will continue to fight for the title of the best reader.
The schoolchildren’s performances were evaluated by theater, film and literature stars: drama teacher at the HSE Film Institute Victoria Belyaeva; author, presenter, editor and producer of the studio for children’s and literary and artistic programs on Radio Russia Zhanna Perelyaeva; Nana Tatishvili, acting teacher based on the Suzuki method at the HSE Film Institute; science fiction writer Gayane Stepanyan; documentary filmmaker, writer Maxim Gureev.
The judges faced a difficult choice. Of the 2.5 million participants, only 15 all-Russian finalists and 15 schoolchildren remained who reached the international final. Young readers performed in front of different Artek camps on the big stage in the Morskoy camp. Everyone was able to get, albeit virtually, to the reading holiday. An online broadcast of the competition was organized in the official group «Live Classics»:
All-Russian final:
International Final:
Since 2015, the Live Classics final has been held at Artek. This is a grandiose event, in which reading teenagers from more than 30 countries of the world take part. This year, in spite of everything, the competition continues, teenagers read their favorite books aloud in Russian. Books remind us of the eternal values that should unite us all— notes Marina Smirnova, President of the Living Classics Foundation.
Director of the Artek International Children’s Center Konstantin Fedorenko noted that the Living Classics competition is a unique platform for reading children, because the love of reading is born from one’s own conscious choice:
Living Classics is a long-term thematic partner and a great friend of Artek, and the children’s center is happy to become a platform for competitive finals. This competition introduces the «digital» generation to the classics, instills a taste for reading and allows you to feel the beauty of the word. All this contributes to the development of interest among the younger generation in Russian and world literature. The book in Artek plays one of the key roles in the upbringing of children.
