CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Sevastopol, a preliminary investigation of a criminal case on illegal access to computer information has been completed.

The investigator of the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Leninsky district completed a preliminary investigation of a criminal case against a resident of Sevastopol, accused of illegal access to computer information protected by law.

According to investigators, in 2021, a few weeks after his dismissal from an enterprise providing accounting services, his 24-year-old former employee, using confidential data known to him, remotely entered the company’s electronic document management system, where he changed the passwords for accessing the registration account and a mailbox associated with the service. As a result of unlawful actions of a man, the corporate account of the electronic document management service was blocked, which negatively affected the work of the enterprise— reported in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

During the operational-search activities carried out by the FSB of Russia in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, the suspect was detained. During the search, a mobile phone and a computer belonging to the attacker were seized.

A criminal case was initiated against the person involved under Part 1 of Art. 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Illegal access to computer information”). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to two years. In the near future, the materials of the criminal case, together with the indictment approved by the prosecutor, will be submitted to the court for consideration on the merits.
