Yalta: IX International Film Festival “Eurasian Bridge” announced the winners

The IX International Film Festival “Eurasian Bridge”, held from October 6 to 10 in Yalta, has summed up its results. The winner of the feature film competition was the film from Montenegro, “Stronghold of Fortitude.” The Iranian film “The Lost Season” was recognized as the best in the documentary film competition.
The competition program of the festival included 9 feature films and 7 documentaries. In just 5 days, viewers were shown more than 30 films from 14 countries. In addition to the competition, the festival included special screenings of films from different countries and a retrospective dedicated to the 165th anniversary of the birth of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, who created some of the most iconic works in Yalta.
The closing ceremony was hosted by art lecturer Ekaterina Rusakova. She noted that “Eurasian Bridge” is a real celebration of cinema, bringing together masters and debutants, recognized stars and new talents from all over the world on one platform, and expressed gratitude to the guests, jury members, participants, partners and viewers, whose support and love inspire new achievements. Soloist, Honored Artist of the Republic of Crimea Marina German also performed for the guests and participants of the festival.
The jury of the gaming competition included the famous Russian film expert, film historian Sergei Lavrentyev, the leading young film director of Kyrgyzstan Dastan Zhapar Ryskeldi, the chairman of the jury was the Italian actor, director, screenwriter, producer Fabio Massa.
The prize for the best film of the feature film competition was given to the film “Stronghold of Fortitude”, directed by Nikola Vukcevic (Montenegro). This is the story of a Christian boy who loses his family during World War II in Yugoslavia and finds refuge in the home of a Muslim, who must make a difficult choice between the safety of his family and loyalty to his principles.
The prize for best director’s work was awarded to Mikhail Kulunakov for the film “Wolves” (Russia), which tells about two families of the late 19th century, through whose relationships the characters of people, the way of life and culture of the Altai people are revealed.
The Iranian film “Eyes of the East,” directed by Ebrahim Amini, received a special jury prize. This is the story of a teenage girl who dreams of going to Seoul for a competition in order to meet a K-pop idol, despite her mother’s categorical resistance.
Svetlana Kryuchkova and Alexander Adabashyan were awarded a special mention by the jury for their roles in the film “Two in one life, not counting the dog” about two elderly St. Petersburg intellectuals directed by Andrei Zaitsev.
The documentary film competition was judged by screenwriter, director, producer and poet Stephen Lee Mraovich (France — Serbia), who acted as chairman of the jury, as well as director, screenwriter from Calcutta Balaka Ghosh and Russian producer, screenwriter, one of the creators of the film “Fire Fox” Anna Shpilenok.
The Best Documentary Film Award went to Iran’s The Lost Season, directed by Mehdi Ghanawati, about a teenage girl living in an arid village on the Afghan border where natural disasters threaten her dreams of going to university.
The jury’s special mention was given to The Incredible Gold Mining Machine by Alfredo Puraglia de la Plaza (Chile — Netherlands), about a sixty-year-old gold miner and his son who creates a machine to provide his family with a better future.
The jury diploma was awarded to the Chinese film “Auntie Hu and Her Garden of Eden,” directed by Pan Zhiqi, who followed for about 10 years the life of a woman from Chongqing who turned collected trash into a Garden of Eden while her son was depressed and her house was threatened with demolition.
The prize of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea was awarded to the documentary film “Lexo” directed by Olesya Fokina and the feature film “Wolves” by Mikhail Kulunakov.
The Audience Choice Awards went to the melodrama “Two in One Life, Not Counting the Dog” by Andrei Zaitsev and the documentary “The Tsarevich’s Mentor. The Story of Charles Sidney Gibbs» by Anna Chernakova about the fate of the teacher of the English Grand Duchesses and Tsarevich Alexei, whose life changed dramatically after the execution of the royal family in 1918.
At the end of the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Crimea Andrei Tereshchenko and member of the festival selection committee Nina Kochelyaeva noted that cinema is truly a bridge that allows you to cross borders, language barriers, and cultural differences.
This is an opportunity to see the world through the eyes of another person, to feel his joy and his pain; the art of cinema has the ability to unite people, build mutual understanding and make the world a better place. And, despite the fact that the ceremony is coming to an end, the art of cinema continues to live, building bridges between hearts and cultures,” emphasized Nina Kochelyaeva.
Then they declared the IX International Film Festival “Eurasian Bridge” closed.

REFERENCE: The Eurasian Bridge festival has been taking place since 2016. In 2014, at the presentation of the film “Sunstroke,” Nikita Mikhalkov proposed establishing an annual film festival, which would be held in Crimea to revive and popularize Crimean cinema in the Eurasian space and would give impetus to strengthening international cultural ties.
