290 Crimeans joined the bone marrow donor registry in the first half of the year
CrimeaPRESS reports:
From January to June 2024, the number of Crimeans who joined the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors increased by 30%. This gives additional chances of salvation to people with severe blood diseases.
As of January 1, 2024, there were 971 residents of the Republic of Crimea in the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors. Over the past six months, 290 Crimeans have joined it, in other words, it has grown by almost 30% in just six months.— said Olga Chos, head of the department for recruiting donor personnel at the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of the Republic of Karelia “Blood Center”.
According to her, during the same period in 2023, only 116 Crimeans joined the Register, that is, 2.5 times less than in 2024.
99 percent of all residents of the Republic of Crimea included in the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors are young people, that is, people who are under 35 years old. This means that many Russians suffering from leukemia and other similar diseases have a greater chance that a suitable stem cell donor will be found for them, and their lives and health will be saved.said Olga Chos.
Let us remind you that the procedure for joining the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors is very simple. You need to come to the Blood Center or one of its branches with a Russian citizen’s passport and SNILS, fill out a short questionnaire. Then donate 4.5-5 ml of blood from a vein. If no contraindications to donation are identified, then the potential donor is included in the Federal Register.
We would also like to remind you that you can voluntarily donate blood and/or join the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors in the Republic of Crimea at the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of the Republic of Crimea “Blood Center” (Simferopol, Kievskaya St., 37), as well as at its branches (Yalta, Sverdlova St., 14; Kerch, Karla Marksa St., 31; Saki, Lobozova St., 22; Yevpatoriya, Pobedy Ave., 22).
Reception is held on weekdays daily from 8:00 to 13:00. Information about the work of mobile teams and about working Saturdays is regularly published on the Blood Center website and in its social networks. You must have a Russian passport and SNILS with you.
