5 thousand rubles is not a million, but it's still a shame… Another case of remote theft in Crimea

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Employees of the criminal investigation department of police department No. 2 «Kievskiy» of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol detained a 52-year-old local resident on suspicion of remote theft.

The day before, a 36-year-old local resident turned to the Simferopol police. The woman told the police that her minor son, through his own negligence, had lost the applicant’s bank card, after which she began to receive SMS notifications about the withdrawal of funds for paying for goods in local grocery stores that she did not make. The total amount of damage was about 5 thousand rubles. As a result of operational-search activities, police officers identified and detained the suspect. She was a 52-year-old local resident. The detainee confessed to her deed and said that she found a bank card on the street, after which she made purchases in grocery stores in a contactless way. As soon as the payment from the found card stopped going through, I threw it away— announced the details of the case in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.

The investigator of police department No. 2 «Kievskiy» of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under part 3 of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Theft). The sanction of this article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to six years. The malefactor was chosen a measure of restraint in the form of a written undertaking not to leave.

Over the past few years, crimes related to unauthorized withdrawal of funds from citizens’ bank cards have been on the rise. Police officers inform that if a loss or theft of a bank card is discovered, and you receive an SMS message from the bank regarding a transaction that you did not perform, you should immediately contact the customer service center, and you should also record this fact at the nearest police department or call 102.
