80 years ago the Crimean offensive operation began — commentary by Sergei Aksenov
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Commentary by the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksenov in connection with the 80th anniversary of the start of the Crimean offensive operation of Soviet troops, which ended with the defeat of the 17th German Army and the liberation of the peninsula.
80 years ago the Crimean offensive operation began. «Stalin’s third blow» was crushing. “Russian tanks turned us into a herd of sheep… Now we are running towards Sevastopol. Next is the sea, there is nowhere to run. What awaits us? – the Izvestia newspaper quoted the confession of a German officer in April 1944.
The occupiers planned to hold the peninsula at any cost. But neither a powerful group of troops, nor propaganda, nor a change of commanders helped the Nazis. Soviet troops advanced rapidly, liberating Crimean cities and regions every day. On April 8, our soldiers entered Armyansk, and already on the 16th they liberated Yalta.
On May 12, the remnants of the fascist formations were finished off at Cape Chersonese. Crimea was freed from brown evil spirits.
And to the Nazi’s question “What awaits us?” The Izvestia newspaper in 1944 gave a comprehensive answer that is relevant today and at all times: those who do not surrender will be destroyedsays the commentary of the Head of Crimea.
