The area of the Old City is called Little Jerusalem — this is the medieval part of Yevpatoria, which was previously the Turkish fortress of Gezlev. All the most significant sites are collected into one unique tourist route — “Little Jerusalem”, which includes several active religious sites. In medieval Gezlev there were several baths, but only the 16th century hammam on Krasnoarmeyskaya Street has survived to this day — this is a monument of Ottoman architecture and one of the unique objects of “Little Jerusalem”. The bathhouse served its intended purpose until the end of the 1980s.
After the reunification of Crimea with Russia, the Turkish bath was included in the list of cultural heritage sites of federal significance. Today, the bathhouse hosts excursions where they talk about the structure of medieval hammams, the features of their design, the unique lighting system and centuries-old bathing traditions.
