A 54-year-old resident of Sevastopol will answer for a brutal murder committed in 1992

CrimeaPRESS reports:

A resident of Sevastopol will stand trial in Dzhankoy on charges of murder committed more than 30 years ago.

On the evening of January 27, 1992, a 24-year-old resident of the village of Pobednoye, Dzhankoy district, left home. Two weeks later, the body of a young man was discovered in a local river. The cause of death of the villager was multiple head injuries. At that time, law enforcement agencies brought his acquaintance from Sevastopol on suspicion of murder, but the man managed to avoid criminal liability— said the Sledkom.

As part of systematic work to solve crimes of past years, investigators and forensic investigators of the Investigative Committee, together with colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, established the circumstances of the murder 32 years ago and obtained irrefutable evidence of the involvement of that same acquaintance in the crime.

According to investigators, in January 1992, the defendant, while intoxicated, was near one of the households in the village. Pobednoye of the Dzhankoy district, during a quarrel that arose between him and his acquaintance, struck the latter at least five blows with a hammer to the head, as well as multiple blows to the body and limbs. The victim died from his injuries at the scene.

Wanting to hide traces of the crime, the accused threw the man’s corpse and the crime weapon into the Pobednaya River.

The progress of the criminal investigation was heard at a meeting of the interdepartmental working group chaired by Deputy Prosecutor of the Republic Andrei Kulagin; investigators were given instructions to carry out additional investigative actions aimed at establishing the victim’s social circle. In this way, the identity of the accused, living in the city of Sevastopol, was established, who, during the investigation of the criminal case, admitted his guilt in full— reported the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Crimea.

The criminal case was sent to the Dzhankoy District Court for consideration on the merits.
