A bust of the partisan hero Fyodor Ivanovich Fedorenko was unveiled in Simferopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Today, on the Day of Remembrance and Glory of Crimean partisans and underground fighters, a solemn opening ceremony of the bust of the hero-partisan, participant in the partisan movement in Crimea, honorary citizen of Simferopol, Major General Fyodor Ivanovich Fedorenko took place in Simferopol.
The bronze bust with an information stele was made by the All-Russian public-state organization “Russian Military Historical Society”.
I express my gratitude to the Russian Military Historical Society for this gift and the opportunity to perpetuate the memory of Fedor Ivanovich Fedorenko in Simferopol! This is an important event in the preservation of historical memory. Simferopol residents honor the feat of their grandfathers, carefully preserving the memory and passing it on to the younger generation— the head of the administration of Simferopol Mikhail Afanasyev made a welcoming speech.
The combat activities of Fedor Ivanovich Fedorenko took place here, in Crimea, near the village of Perevalnoye.
In 1943, at the age of 22, he was entrusted with commanding a brigade of more than a thousand people, which carried out more than 40 sabotage operations in a year and a half. This included the well-known Zuya operation, during which, by breaking communications and blocking the road from Simferopol, the partisans of the brigade defeated the enemy and freed the prisoners. This is one of the largest and most successful operations of the Northern Connection.
On April 10, 1944, the first partisan brigade “Grozny” under the command of Fedorenko was awarded the Red Banner. And on April 13, detachments, together with the advanced units of the Soviet Army, broke into Simferopol and liberated the city from the fascist invaders.
The military merits of the legendary partisan commander and liberator of Simferopol, the courage and heroism shown during the Great Patriotic War, courage and bravery, devotion to the Motherland and his people are duly appreciated by the state. Fedor Ivanovich was awarded the second Order of the Red Banner, the Order “For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR” 3rd degree and various medals.
