CrimeaPRESS reports:
In the Bakhchisarai region, a preliminary investigation into a criminal case against a courier of remote scammers has been completed.
An 86-year-old resident of the village of Kholmovka contacted the duty station of the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Bakhchisarai district and reported that she had become a victim of scammers operating under the scheme “Your relative was involved in an accident.” Under the pretext that her daughter allegedly got into an accident and needed money for treatment, the worried woman transferred all her savings in the amount of 365 thousand rubles to a stranger— said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
As a result of operational search activities, criminal investigation operatives quickly identified and detained the man who acted as a courier in the fraudulent scheme. He turned out to be a 19-year-old resident of the Bakhchisaray district, who said that he found a part-time job in one of the messengers. On instructions from the curator, he arrived at the specified address, took money from an elderly woman, of which he took 10 thousand for himself as a reward, and transferred the rest of the money to the employer’s account.
The young man confessed to his crime, repented and voluntarily compensated for all material damage. Nevertheless, a criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). The investigation has been completed. With the indictment approved by the prosecutor, the case has already been sent to court. The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to six years.
