A delegation from China visited Chersonese Tauride

Members of the delegation of the People’s Republic of China came to Crimea to see the iconic sights of the peninsula and discuss the prospects for tourism development with the authorities. One of the main events of the visit was getting to know the pearl of Sevastopol and the entire region — Chersonese Tauride.

The head of the excursion department of the museum-reserve, Nadezhda Goncharova, told foreign guests about the history of the city over two millennia and explained why it is called the cradle of Russian Orthodoxy. The tourists learned that Chersonesos was founded in the 5th century BC. e. settlers from Heraclea Pontus, that at the beginning of our era it came under the influence of the Roman Empire and then Byzantium. Guests from China saw archaeological sites from the 4th century BC to the 14th century AD: defensive walls and city gates, an ancient theater, fish-salting tanks, the foundations of Christian churches and much more. They also heard about the agricultural activities, life, religious beliefs, traditions and crafts of the Chersonesos. The sightseeing tour ended on the picturesque northern shore of Tauride Chersonesus, next to the Basilica of 1935— said the press service of the Chersonese Tauride Museum-Reserve.

Today, honored guests from the People’s Republic of China got acquainted with the pearl of Sevastopol — Chersonese Tauride, heard a lot of interesting things and received a charge of positive emotions. According to representatives of the media and cultural sphere of the Celestial Empire, Chinese tourists want to come to the peninsula. That is why it is important that members of the delegation personally visit the museum-reserve, and also see cultural heritage sites in Crimea and Sevastopol.
