A drunken car thief was detained in Sevastopol. There was a short chase
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Sevastopol, the police received a message from a local resident that an unknown person had stolen his Hyundai Solaris car.
While searching for a vehicle, traffic police officers noticed a foreign car similar in description on one of the sections of the Tavrida highway. Because the driver ignored a legal request to stop and suddenly accelerated, the police began pursuing the offender.
During the chase, traffic inspectors managed to convince the car thief through a loudspeaker device to comply with their demands and stop. The driver was a 27-year-old man who showed external signs of intoxication, which was confirmed by an examination. According to the detainee, he noticed the car was running and decided to take it for a ride.— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
During the check, the police found out that the citizen had previously been deprived of his driver’s license for drunk driving. Based on the fact of repeated driving while intoxicated, a criminal case was initiated against him under Part 1 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and for unlawful taking of a car — under Part 1 of Art. 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate returned the stolen foreign car in technically sound condition to the rightful owner. But the hijacker faces a real prison sentence.
