A former member of the Public Chamber of Crimea will be held accountable for a fatal accident. The case has been sent to court

The prosecutor’s office of the Kyiv district of the city of Simferopol approved an indictment in a criminal case against former member of the Public Chamber of Crimea Oleg Shcherbakov. He is accused under paragraph “a” of Part 4 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules by a person driving a car, resulting in the death of a person through negligence, committed by a person who is intoxicated).

During the investigation, it was established that on September 7, 2023, the accused, while intoxicated, was driving a Volkswagen car along Kievskaya Street in the city of Simferopol. Driving a car at a speed of 111 km/h, the man drove into the lane intended for oncoming traffic, where he made a tangential collision with Daewoo and Skoda cars. As a result of a traffic accident, the driver of a Skoda car died from his injuries in a healthcare facility— reported the Crimean prosecutor’s office.

The investigation carried out a significant amount of work: video recordings from street surveillance cameras and video recorders, including the moment of the accident itself, were promptly seized and studied, investigative experiments and examinations were carried out. The injured participants in the accident and eyewitnesses of the events, police officers who initially went to the scene of the tragedy, ambulance doctors and doctors who examined and treated the accused were recognized and interrogated as victims. The progress and results of the investigation were under the control of the leadership of the Main Investigation Department.

The criminal case was sent to the Kiev District Court of Simferopol for consideration on the merits.
