A fraud courier who defrauded two pensioners out of 400 thousand rubles was detained in Kerch

The duty station of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city of Kerch received statements from two elderly local residents who became victims of telephone scammers.

An 87-year-old pensioner told police that a man called her and said that her sister had been in an accident. The caller introduced himself as a doctor at the hospital where her relative and other participants in the car accident were allegedly taken. He noted that the victims urgently needed money for treatment and offered to give the money to the delivery service employee. The Crimean woman, having a little doubt, still believed the swindler and handed over 300 thousand rubles to the courier.

A similar situation occurred on the same day with a woman born in 1940, to whom the fraudster introduced himself over the phone as a police officer and reported an accident involving her granddaughter. She lost 100 thousand rubles— said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.

During operational search activities, operatives quickly established the location of the attacker who came to the applicants and detained him. He turned out to be a previously unconvicted 19-year-old resident of the Leninsky district of the Republic of Crimea.

Currently, a criminal case has been opened regarding fraud under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. A preventive measure in the form of a recognizance not to leave the place was chosen against the suspect.
