A fraudster was convicted in Sevastopol for “cheating” old people out of money
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Sevastopol, the organizer of a criminal group was sentenced to a long term of imprisonment for stealing more than 1.2 million rubles from elderly people.
Having agreed with the position of the state prosecutor of the prosecutor’s office of the Leninsky district of Sevastopol, the court issued a guilty verdict against a 44-year-old resident of the Republic of Crimea. She was found guilty under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud by an organized group) and Part 1 of Art. 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal possession without the purpose of selling narcotic drugs),” reports the press service of the Sevastopol prosecutor’s office.
It was established that the woman created an organized group to steal funds from senior citizens. She recruited her partner and two female acquaintances into the group. Accomplices, under the guise of sales representatives, informed elderly people that they had become participants in a major draw. To receive the reward, defrauded pensioners allegedly temporarily had to transfer all their savings to them, but instead of real banknotes, they received cut paper in sealed envelopes.
Thus, between June 2019 and February 2020, an organized group stole more than 1.2 million rubles from four elderly Sevastopol residents.
In addition, marijuana was found at the place of residence of the group organizer in the Bakhchisarai region of the Republic of Crimea, which she kept for personal use.
The organizer of the group went into hiding and her location was established in December 2022. The investigation into the criminal case was carried out by the investigative department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Leninsky district of Sevastopol. Currently, the Gagarinsky District Court of Sevastopol has sentenced the perpetrator to 5 years and 9 months of imprisonment in a general regime correctional colonynoted the prosecutor’s office.
The woman’s accomplices have already been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment in December 2020. The damage to the victims was partially compensated during the investigation and consideration of the case, and the rest was recovered from those convicted by a court verdict.
