A gang of “werewolves in uniform” was convicted in Sevastopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Ex-police officers were caught swindling the real estate of elderly people.

The evidence collected by the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol was recognized by the court as sufficient to convict the former district police commissioner and the police inspector, as well as a relative of one of them. They were found guilty of committing several episodes of fraudulent actions that resulted in the deprivation of citizens’ rights to residential premises, as well as of attempting to commit such crimes (part 4 of article 159, part 3 of article 30, part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) .

The Department for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases established that since June 2018, the then-current police officers created an organized group to steal the apartments of lonely elderly residents of Sevastopol, which involved a civilian acquaintance with experience in real estate transactions.

Officials collected information about lonely people who, due to age or mental illness, could not understand the nature of the crimes being committed against them. Their acquaintance, on the basis of documents obtained fraudulently from pensioners, prepared powers of attorney for himself for further re-registration of property. Also involved in the criminal scheme was the aunt of one of the law enforcement officers, in whose name real estate was registered for further resale.— reported the Investigative Committee.

During the events carried out by employees of the Investigative Committee, together with colleagues from the republican FSB Directorate and the Investigative Division of the SB Internal Affairs Directorate for the city of Sevastopol, the defendants were detained in August 2021.

The victims of the accomplices were five lonely pensioners with various diseases. As a result of criminal actions, members of the organizing group took possession of six apartments and a plot of land in Sevastopol. In order to compensate for the damage caused by criminal activity, the entire property was seized,” noted the Sledkom.

By a court verdict, two former police officers were found guilty of the crimes charged. Each of them will have to serve 6 years of imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony each with a fine of 200 thousand rubles, further restriction of freedom for 1 year and deprivation of the special rank of police officers. A relative of one of them was sentenced to 4 years of suspended imprisonment with a fine of 1 million rubles. Another member of the organizing group, who entered into a pre-trial agreement with the investigation, was convicted in November 2022 and sentenced to 3 years and 2 months in a general regime colony.
