A malfunction of the stove chimney almost deprived residents of the Simferopol region of their homes
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On October 12, at about 11 p.m., the Ministry of Emergency Situations received a report of a fire in a private house in the village of Levadki, Simferopol region. Two departments of the 3rd fire and rescue unit immediately went to the scene of the incident.
Upon arrival at the scene, it was determined that the roof of a two-story house was on fire. The owner was on the roof, using improvised means to try to extinguish the fire. The man received injuries of varying severity. Rescuers helped the victim down and handed him over to emergency medical personnel. It took firefighters only 23 minutes to completely extinguish the fire. The area was 20 square meters— reported the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Crimea.
The cause of the fire was a malfunction of the heating stove chimney. The house and outbuildings were saved from the fire.
Crimean firefighters remind that when installing and constructing a furnace, special attention should be paid to the chimney, through which smoke and combustion products are removed from the heat generators and discharged outside the room. The outlet location is placed between the elements of the rafter system so as not to violate its integrity. The main difficulty of passing a pipe through the roof is that during the passage of smoke the temperature of the walls rises, which creates a risk of fire of flammable materials in the rafter system.
A fire near the ceiling is a fairly common cause of fires in the private sector. Often people learn about such a fire from their neighbors — after all, a fire on the roof of your own house is very difficult to notice. Therefore, the installation of the chimney must be carried out by specialists in accordance with all fire safety requirements. It is necessary to regularly check the condition of the chimney in the attic for cracks and heating of elements of the rafter system.
