A man was detained in Simferopol on suspicion of fraudulently obtaining jewelry

Criminal investigation officers of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol detained a suspect in fraud under the pretext of manufacturing jewelry.
It has been preliminarily established that 33 and 44-year-old local residents contacted a jeweler via an advert for services in the production and repair of jewellery placed on the Internet, asking him to make them gold items, as well as under the pretext of repairing and cleaning other gold jewellery. They met the craftsman near the railway station, where they gave him scrap gold, as well as money for the orders. After some time, the man stopped responding, after which the citizens contacted the police. The total amount of damage was more than 1.5 million roubles. — the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea reported.
As a result of the operational and investigative activities, the operatives identified the suspect and detained him. He turned out to be a 37-year-old man who admitted his guilt and said that he had handed over gold items and scrap precious metal to pawnshops in the city and spent the money he received on his own needs.
The operatives conducted a search at the suspect’s place of residence and at pawnshops, as a result of which some of the gold items and pledge documents were seized.
The investigator of the OP No. 1 «Zheleznodorozhny» of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol initiated criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under Part 2, 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Fraud).
The man faces a maximum sentence of up to six years in prison.
A preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave was chosen for the suspect.
