A military-historical conference dedicated to the 240th anniversary of the Black Sea Fleet was held in Sevastopol

In Sevastopol, under the leadership of the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Vice Admiral Viktor Sokolov, a military-historical conference «The Black Sea Fleet: 240 years for the glory and benefit of Russia» was held.
The conference was held at the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet in the hall named after Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union S.G. Gorshkov in person and via videoconference.
The event was attended by members of the Military Council, heads of departments, departments and services of the fleet headquarters, commanders of formations, units and ships, as well as representatives of the research institute of military history of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (VAGSh), departments of the history of wars and military art VAGSH and VUNTS VMA Navy them. During the conference, reports were heard reflecting the history of the formation of the Russian state in the southern maritime direction from the Azov campaigns of Peter I in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, to the creation of the Black Sea Fleet and the equipment of the Southern theater of military operations during the Russian-Turkish wars.
The speakers covered the course of military operations of the fleet forces in the Mediterranean and Black Seas at the beginning of the 19th century, the events of the Crimean War, the First World War, the Civil War, considered the historical and military aspects of the preparation and conduct of landing operations of the Black Sea Fleet during the Great Patriotic War, as well as actions 5 Mediterranean Operational Squadron of the Navy to deter the forces of the 6th US Fleet and NATO forces in the Mediterranean during the Cold War— the press service of the Southern Military District notes.
The military-historical conference was held in accordance with the plan of events for celebrating the Day of the Black Sea Fleet, the 240th anniversary of which will be celebrated on May 13.
