CrimeaPRESS reports:

On the embankment. Tereshkova, the opening of a sculptural group dedicated to the Soviet front-line writer Boris Balter and the heroes of his autobiographical story “Goodbye, boys!” took place. The event is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city from the Nazi invaders.

The monument is dedicated to the Yevpatorians who went to the front from school in 1941. Its authors are Sevastopol sculptor Konstantin Tsikhiev and architect Georgy Grigoryants. The height of the art object at the tip of the flagpole is 5 meters. The total weight of the sculptures in the composition is almost 3 tons. The figures were cast by skilled craftsmen at the Copper Golem foundry in the Rostov region. All work took almost a year.

The sculptural composition consists of four figures: the three heroes of the story, Volodya Belov, Sasha Krieger and Vitya Anikin, sit on the bridge, eat ice cream and look at the sea; a little further away, the author of the work stands by an open book and watches them. The boys’ faces are recognizable to those who have watched the film directed by Mikhail. Kalika «Goodbye, boys», filmed in Evpatoria in 1964. The main characters were played by young actors Evgeny Steblov, Nikolai Dostal and Mikhail Kononov. All of them later received the title of People’s Artists of the USSR.

For almost two decades, a group of enthusiasts worked to revive the memory of Boris Balter. The public organization “Committee for Perpetuating the Memory of the Writer Boris Balter” was created, which included caring, energetic people.

For the writer’s 100th anniversary, we held a literary conference, launched a “Balter” tram with a portrait of the writer and the silhouette of the future monument, and helped the local history museum create an exhibition telling about the writersays the chairman of the Balter Committee, Yakov Fomenko.
