A Muscovite and four ladies from Sevastopol stirred up an illegal gambling business in the Hero City

Members of the organized group were found guilty of conducting underground gaming activities in the territory of Sevastopol with the extraction of income in excess of 60 million rubles.

The evidence collected by the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol was recognized by the court as sufficient to convict a resident of Moscow and four residents of Sevastopol. They were found guilty of organizing and conducting gambling using gaming equipment outside the gambling zone using the Internet, committed by an organized group with the extraction of income on an especially large scale (Part 3 of Article 171.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)— reported the Investigative Committee.

The investigator for the investigation of particularly important cases of the Sevastopol Interdistrict Investigation Department and the court found that in November 2018, a resident of Moscow organized a criminal group with the aim of extracting illegal income from underground gaming activities in the territory of Sevastopol. To implement his plan, he involved four residents of the city, distributing roles among the participants. In premises on Pobedy Avenue and on Levanevsky Street, Nakhimovsky District, clubs operated using gaming equipment connected to the Internet, where visitors played games of chance for money.

The operation of underground gambling halls was stopped in May 2021 as a result of events carried out in cooperation with operational officers of the Economic Security and Internal Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city of Sevastopol with the force support of OMON “Berkut” fighters of the Russian Guard.

During the searches that were carried out on the premises of the clubs and at the places of residence of their employees, computer equipment, cash terminals, cash, and video equipment, with the help of which employees of the gaming halls ensured confidentiality, were seized.

As part of the investigation, a number of necessary examinations were carried out, which confirmed that the income of the organized criminal group from illegal activities for the specified period amounted to about 63 million rubles. In order to compensate for this damage, the investigation seized the defendants’ cars, money and land.,” the Sledkom clarified.

By a court verdict, the accused were found guilty of the crimes charged. A resident of Moscow was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a general regime colony with a fine of 500 thousand rubles. His accomplices — to various terms from 3 years 6 months in a general regime colony to 1 year 6 months of suspended imprisonment with payment of fines. The court’s verdict did not enter into legal force.
