CrimeaPRESS reports:

The Kerch prosecutor’s office supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against 7 local residents. Depending on their role and degree of participation, they are found guilty of committing crimes under Part. 2, 3 tbsp. 171.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal organization and conduct of gambling using gaming equipment outside the gambling zone, as well as using information and telecommunication networks).

The court found that 2 defendants created and led an organized group, and attracted 5 more residents of the region to participate in their illegal actions. Since the end of 2020, the attackers, knowing that gambling was prohibited in the city, placed equipment in 4 premises in which they organized gambling— reported the prosecutor’s office.

The illegal activities of the defendants were stopped by officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, and gaming equipment was seized from illegal circulation. As a result of their criminal activities, income was received in the amount of more than 5 million rubles.

The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced one of the defendants, who had previously been convicted of a crime in the field of drug trafficking, to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment to be served in a maximum security correctional colony. The remaining 6 defendants were sentenced to imprisonment for periods of 2 to 3 years, which were suspended with probation for a similar period.

The verdict has not entered into legal force; the supervisory authority will decide on an appeal.
