A quantorian from Sevastopol is working on a device for translating sign language into text
CrimeaPRESS reports:
How to help people with hearing and speech impairments to communicate without restrictions? This question became the starting point of the project of Elizaveta Vasilyeva, who is studying in the direction of «IT-quantum» (mentor — Evgeny Malykhin) in the children’s technopark «Kvantorium» (Sevastopol).
During the school year, Lisa was engaged in the creation of a device for translating sign language into text and voice formats. Its prototype is based on Arduino. It has a complex system of sensors and the ability to display text on the display. According to the author, the most difficult thing was to set the value of the fingers for the correct display of the result. So far, the glove can only decipher a few gestures, but there are plans to expand the base and supplement the device with a gyroscope for data transmission accuracy.
This project has already been evaluated by experts — Liza reached the final of the competition of scientific and technological projects «Big Challenges» and became the winner of the «Point of Conservation» festival in the nomination «Best Innovative Product».
