Alushta police identified and detained a suspect in remote fraud operating on the Internet.
A 26-year-old local resident contacted the Alushta police with a complaint about fraudulent activities through a popular classifieds website. The man found information about the sale of a car engine, contacted the seller by phone, the Alushta resident agreed on the purchase and delivery of the goods and transferred 80 thousand rubles through the fast payment system via a mobile number. However, after paying for the order, the seller stopped communicating— said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
As a result of operational search activities, criminal investigation officers of the Russian Department of Internal Affairs for the city of Alushta identified and detained a suspect during a business trip, who turned out to be a previously convicted 30-year-old resident of Inkerman.
The suspect admitted his guilt and compensated the victim for material damage in full. Nevertheless, on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud), a criminal case has been initiated. According to the sanctions of the article, the attacker may face up to 6 years in prison.
