A resident of Feodosia thought she had “hit the jackpot” by stealing other people’s money (150 thousand) from an ATM
CrimeaPRESS reports:
A 55-year-old man contacted the Feodosia police and reported the theft of funds. The victim explained that at the bank branch he topped up his bank card with 150 thousand rubles, but the money was never credited; when he returned to the ATM, there was no money in the bill acceptor.
As a result of operational search activities, police officers identified a 51-year-old local resident who was standing in line at the ATM behind the applicant.
After the man left without making sure that the transaction was completed and the bill acceptor accepted the money he deposited, the suspect took advantage of the situation and stole the money. The woman explained that she spent it on personal needs.— said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
The “jackpot”, an unexpected “gift of fate” and, finally, high-quality “shopping” turned into a criminal case under the unpleasant article “theft” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Part 2 of Article 158). The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 5 years. The suspect was given a preventive measure in the form of a recognizance not to leave the place.
The police remind: Under no circumstances should you take money that has been forgotten by another person. Each ATM has a support number that you can call and voice the situation, or report the incident to the administration of the institution where the ATM is installed, or call the police on 102.
