A resident of the Black Sea region “encroached” on the archaeological heritage — “damaged the cultural layer”

The Chernomorsky District Court of the Republic of Crimea found citizen V. guilty of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 243 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and was sentenced to 1 year of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period of 1 year.
V., being in fact the road foreman of SU-567 LLC, independently decided to carry out excavation work to level the soil layer on the land plot for subsequent storage of the crushed stone-sand mixture, on which the identified archaeological heritage site “Group of 11 mounds” is located, included in the list of identified objects of cultural (archaeological) heritage and placed under state protection, as evidenced by the corresponding information signs (stands) installed by the State Budgetary Institution of the Republic of Crimea «Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve «Kalos Limen»noted the press service of the court.
During excavation work, a section of the identified archaeological heritage site “Group of 11 mounds” was damaged, in the form of damage to the cultural layer containing traces of human existence, the time of which exceeds a hundred years, including archaeological objects.
The illegal acts of citizen V. were identified and suppressed by officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The verdict did not enter into legal force.
